What Does BTTS Mean?
BTTS stands for both teams to score and has become one of the most popular football betting markets in the last decade or so. One of the reasons BTTS or both teams to score is such a popular bet type is that when you back a BTTS bet you are always willing for something to happen. There are never any heart in mouth moments when you hear there has been a goal in a certain match.
Another reason punters love BTTS predictions is both teams to score bets are never sunk until the final whistle. Games can go into injury time at 0-0 and still end up a both teams to score winner.
One other reason why punters love to bet on BTTS are the both teams to score odds. When betting on standard 1×2 odds the better bets tend to be pretty short prices. This means that you end up placing lots of teams into an accumulator just to get a decent return. However with both teams to score the odds can never be too short. For BTTS to be a winning bet you need at least 2 goals in a match and you should always be looking at bigger than 1/2 on that sort of outcome.
Why Should You Place A Both Teams To Score Bet?
Placing a both teams to score bet is an attractive proposition for many football punters for many reasons.
One of the main reasons why BTTS betting is so popular is the odds you can get on your bets. The both teams to score odds on any BTTS accumulator are always good because even the most likely games to provide goals for both teams will be attractive odds.
Depending on what league you are betting on there is between a 45% chance and 70% chance of landing a both teams to score bet. Given the odds are normally somewhere between 1/2 and even money on both teams to score bets then it stands to reason that BTTS is a bet that will be attractive to many.
Many punters bet on football not only to make profits but also for fun and both teams to score bets are some of the more fun bets to place. Whereas you can back a team to win and they may be 3-0 down at half time, the worst case scenario with a both teams to score bet is 0-0. This means you are only ever a minimum of 2 goals away from landing your bet and cheering for a positive outcome is always more fun than cheering for nothing to happen in a game you have bet on.
Are There Any Bets If I Don’t Think Both Teams Will Score?
The most commonly both teams to score bet that gets backed is BTTS – Yes but there is also the option of backing BTTS – No if you don’t think both team will score in a given match. So in this instance you are covering 0-0 or either side to win to nil, which means to win with a clean sheet. If either of those outcomes happens then your BTTS – No bet is a winning bet.
The reason this is not quite as popular a bet is because the odds can vary more than with BTTS – Yes and also because generally punters prefer to back positive outcomes (games with lots of goals) over negative outcomes (games with very few or no goals).
However BTTS – No can actually be a really good bet. There are games that seem to be good bets for both teams not to score in every league but there are certain leagues around the world that produce very few goals and these are the leagues that are really worth concentrating on for finding bets on both teams not to score.
How Do I Pick The Best Both Teams To Score Bets?
It sounds very obvious but the stats that really need to be examined in order to pick the best both teams to score bets are all the stats around goals being scored.
Sometimes just looking at average goals or total goals can be misleading when finding the best BTTS bets. A team might win 5-4 two games running and then draw their next 3 matches 0-0. If you looked at that period as a whole then you would see that the team had scored 10 goals in 5 games (an average of 2 goals a match) and they had conceded a total of 8 goals in the last 5 games (an average of 1.6 goals a match). The totals and averages might point to the team being a good candidate for both teams to score however it’s only when you look at each match individually that you may discover they aren’t actually one of the better both teams to score bets.
It’s also a much stronger strategy for picking the best both teams to score bets to examine the claims of both teams involved in the match when deciding whether or not to bet on BTTS. One team might look a great bet for both teams to score but the other side might be mostly involved in very tight games. It takes two teams to make a game of football and both teams to score bets are much better when both teams involved score and concede plenty of goals. If one team doesn’t fit that mould then they are likely to spoil the party.
Team news is also an important factor in picking the best BTTS bets. Many teams are quite reliant on one or two players to either score their goals or keep things tight defensively. A team that has been scoring lots of goals but is missing their top 2 goalscorers may now be considered an unlikely team to score a goal. Likewise a team that is generally solid at the back that might not ordinarily have looked a good candidate for a BTTS bet might become a strong candidate to be included in a both teams to score accumulator because they could be missing their best centre half and their best defensive midfielder.
Where Can I Get BTTS Stats?
There are many sites out there that provide BTTS stats to allow you to pick the best BTTS bets. One of our favourite sites to use to research both teams to score bets and BTTS form is WinDrawWin. They cover a huge range of leagues and show the percentage of games each team plays that both teams score in making it easier to find the teams with strong BTTS form and those with weaker BTTS form.
We use a variety of BTTS stats sites in order to give the most informed BTTS prediction and BTTS win predictions on our Facebook tips group. To save you the time of doing hours of research each week on a variety of leagues and matches we suggest you simply follow the opinions and BTTS Tips that we provide on a weekly basis.
What Other Types Of Both Teams To Score Bet Can I Place?
There are several types of both teams to score bet that can be placed with most bookmakers:
Both Teams To Score – Yes
BTTS – Yes, or both teams to score – Yes, means you are betting on both teams in any given match to score at least one goal. It doesn’t actually matter how many goals the teams end up scoring, as long as they both get a goal.
One of the great things about this bet is it can become a winner at any point in a match. Both teams to score tips have often already won by half time and you could even have landed you both teams to score accumulator in the first half of the football matches you have bet on. There are not many football betting markets where you can say that.
Both Teams To Score – No
The BTTS – No, or both teams to score – no bet is a wager on both teams not to score. So your BTTS – No bet is a winner if at least one team keeps a clean sheet in the match. This market isn’t quite as popular as BTTS – Yes but can offer plenty of value in some matches and should always come under consideration. It can also be worthwhile including both of these BTTS markets in your BTTS accumulators.
Both Teams To Score – Yes and Win
Looking to improve your both teams to score odds on your ‘yes’ bets? Then you can also predict the winning team in the same bet. If you are betting on a team to win and concede a goal which is the case with both teams to score and win then you are not only calling the winner of the tie but you are betting on there being at least 3 goals in the match, if not more. As a result both teams to score and win odds tend to be very generous and can result in some really big winning bets if you follow the best both teams to score and win tips.
Just remember that
you don’t have to do this for every match in your both teams to score bets.
It’s perfectly acceptable to have a both teams to score and win accumulator
where you mix and match which both teams to score markets you back. Some games
you might want to back both teams to score and win and others you might want to
just back both teams to score. Of course you can also throw some both teams not
to score bets in that acca too!
The reason the both teams to score and win odds tend to be big is it can be a difficult bet to land. In some matches it is a fairly obvious bet to place but placing too many of these bets in the same accumulator can be very dangerous and difficult to predict.
Both Teams To Score – No and Win
A bet on both teams to score – no and win and exactly the same as a bet on a team to win to nil. In both markets you have to call the winner of the match and that winner will be expected to not concede any goals. That is the only way this type of both teams to score bet can be successful.
What is quite interesting about this bet is that despite being exactly the same as the win to nil market the same bookmaker will sometimes offer slightly different odds about the two outcomes. It won’t be a big difference but it is always worth checking before backing your BTTS win predictions if you could be getting better odds on other markets that require the same outcomes.
What Are The Best Both Teams To Score Markets To Bet On?
The answer about which are the best both teams to score markets to bet on will certainly vary depending on who you ask. The deciding factor about which is the best bet should always come down to which match you are looking at. For some matches both teams to score bets will best, for others both teams not to score will be the best tips.
It always pays to be flexible with your betting approach and you shouldn’t necessarily look through a list of fixtures trying to just find both teams to score predictions. Instead look at each game, analyse the both teams to score form and stats and then decide what you think the best bet of the game is.
Whichever of these both teams to score bets has the best value in a match will be the best bet. If 2 games have the same both teams to score odds and you expect one of them to finish 1-1 and the other to finish 3-2 then you obviously think both games look a reasonable both teams to score bet but the value will definitely lie with the match you think there will be most goals in.
The same applies to both teams not to score bets. Matches you think will finish 0-0 will generally be better bets than matches you think will be 5-0 – even though they would both be winners in the both teams not to score market.
Finally it is important to never ‘ruin’ a great both teams to score bet or both teams not to score bet by also adding in the winning team. You may find the best both teams to score bet all season and then if you turn it into a both teams to score and win tip instead you could miss out on a great both teams to score bet if your win prediction ends up being wrong.
Should I Bet On Both Teams To Score Or Over 2.5 Goals?
Both teams to score can be a very different bet to over 2.5 goals but plenty of both teams to score bets will end up finishing over 2.5 goals.
The only way an over 2.5 goals bet can be a winner and both teams to score can be a loser is if one team wins by three or more goals to nil. Of course that happens in many games throughout the season but it’s not an obvious outcome.
The only way a btts tip can be a winner and over 2.5 goals can be a loser is if the game finishes up 1-1. Now 1-1 is a very common scoreline but it is the minimum requirement for both teams to score. Ideally when making your both teams to score predictions you want to be finding games you expect to be higher scoring than 1-1. Some might still finish 1-1 giving you the winning bet but if you have called the games correctly hopefully there will be even more goals than that.
When you have checked the both teams to score form for the best bets always look at the odds for both teams to score and over 2.5 goals and work out which offers the best value.
Should I Bet On Both Teams Not To Score Or Under 2.5 Goals or Win To Nil?
These three markets all have some very similar traits and you may find that picking one of these over another could give you a much better bet at the odds.
Under 2.5 goals will obviously always be a bet on a low scoring game. Many games that both teams don’t score in or games that finish win to nil will also have under 2.5 goals but they don’t necessarily have to. Some both teams not to score or win to nil bets can be very high scoring – for example a 5-0 victory would be a winner in both of those markets but not in both teams not to score betting.
Win to nil is often a better bet than both teams not to score if you are quite confident about which team will win the game. You will get bigger odds for what is a similar kind of bet.
When it comes to making your both teams to score predictions or both teams not to score predictions it normally pays to note down roughly what your correct score prediction is. This will help you decide if win to nil or under 2.5 goals is a better strategy. If you expect a team to win easily with a clean sheet then win to nil is definitely the best bet for you.
However if you think a game will be very slow scoring a closely matched then under 2.5 goals would be the best option. That way you are covered for a narrow 1-0 win either way, a 0-0 or 1-1 draw and even either team winning the match 2-0. That is lots of outcomes to have in your favour with just one bet and it can be ideal when two very strong, closely matched defensive teams come up against each other.
Both Teams To Score Betting v Both Teams To Score and Win Betting
It can sometimes be difficult deciding whether to follow your BTTS prediction or your BTTS win predictions. Either way you are requiring every team in your single bet or BTTS acca bet to get on the scoresheet. That alone is not always an easy prediction to make.
With BTTS and win betting you also need to call the winning team. Think about how difficult it can be to pick a winning football acca, even when you don’t need both team to score. Then if you add the two markets together to make it BTTS and win betting then landing an acca can become almost impossible.
What makes BTTS tips so attractive is that you really don’t care which team wins. Predicting the winner of the match can often be the most difficult thing to do so relying just on teams to score will win you far more bets.
Both teams to score and win betting has its place and can offer great value but the BTTS odds on this bet tend to be very big for a reason. By all means include one or two matches with this prediction in your accas but generally it should pay to concentrate more on just betting on both teams to score or even both teams not to score rather than also trying to back the winner of the match also.
How Do I Find The Best Both Teams To Score and Win Bets?
Landing both teams to score and win predictions is not easy to do. In many cases you fancy a team to win a match because you expect them to be dominant over the opposition. This dominance will often result in a clean sheet for the team you want to back. This means that win to nil would be the recommended bet in these circumstances.
However there are many teams that are very good but tend to concede goals. Maybe they have a leaky defence or perhaps they just put so much into their attacking play that they can get caught out. It’s this sort of team that will appeal as one of the better both teams to score and win tips.
The main thing to remember with both teams to score and win tipping is that the team you are backing to win HAVE to score at least 2 goals in the match or your bet will be a loser. If the opposition look capable of scoring 2 goals then your winning team is going to have to score 3 goals to get the win. Games that are 3-2 or even higher scoring a fairly rare so the first rule of betting on both teams to score and win is to only bet on games where you think the losing team will score exactly one goal. Any more than that and you are leaving too much to chance.
There are a couple of scenarios to look out for when finding the best BTTS and win tips. One of those is two good, attacking teams that don’t have great defences where the home team has a great home record. You can expect the home team to win the match but the away team look well capable of grabbing a goal.
An underrated method of finding great BTTS and win tips requires a bit more study. If you have a team that should be able to win their match but has one major weakness that is likely to be exposed by the opposition you may have a good BTTS and win bet. One example of this would be one of the top teams not being great at defending set pieces. When they come up against a lower team that relies on set piece goals you can be fairly sure that the poorer team will get opportunities from corners and free kicks to get their goal however you’d also expect the better team to outclass the lower team. In this case both teams to score and win betting can be very profitable as the lower team probably wouldn’t be expected by the bookmakers to score allowing you to grab some great BTTS and win odds.
Should I Place Both Teams To Score and Win Accumulators?
Both teams to score and win accumulators are extremely hard to land. Bet types should always be adapted to what the best bets are and if you have found 4 or 5 brilliant BTTS win predictions then placing an accumulator on those tips wouldn’t be a bad idea.
However in general it is probably better to include no more than 2 or 3 BTTS win predictions in your accumulators otherwise you are going to find it very difficult to land enough bets. Both teams to score is an easier bet to predict than both teams to score and win so if you are concentrating on just that sort of market it would normally be ok to include more selections in your both teams to score accumulator.
The great thing about all these markets is you can mix and match you bets. In the same accumulator you can have both teams to score and win, both teams to score, both teams not to score and both teams not to score and win. It’s all about finding the best mix of value bets and placing the correct type of bet that compliments those both teams to score tips.
